This reference guide describes options for restoring files from the Code42 console.

Code42 console restore reference

To restore files from the Code42 console:

  1. Select Administration > Environment > Agents.
  2. Select a backup or legacy agent. 
    The agent details appear.
  3. In the Destination section, click the Restore icon Web restore icon.
    The Web Restore dialog appears.

Item Description
a From Destination

Displays available destinations to restore from.

The From Backup Set list appears when more than one backup set uses the selected destination. If needed, select the backup set from which to restore files.
b Restore Target

Specifies the type of restore:
c Target device
Device restore only 		Specifies a device as the destination for the restore.
d Target location
Device restore only
  • Target Path
    Specifies that the files should be restored to a specific file path on the device. Restored files inherit the ownership of the target path folder.
  • Target
    (Appears only if Target Path is selected). Specifies the file path on the device for the restore.
  • Original Location 
    Specifies that the files should be restored to their original location on the device.
    • If the file already exists

      Specifies what to do with existing files (files that are on your device right now) when Code42 restores a file matching the filename to the same location.

      • Rename
        Renames the existing files by adding the prefix "original1" to the existing filename.

      • Overwrite
        Overwrites existing files with the restored file.

    • Permissions
      Specifies ownership of restored files. 
      • Current 
        (Recommended) When the file is restored, its ownership is changed to match the ownership of the folder where the restored file is saved. 
      • Original
        When the file is restored, it keeps the original ownership that was in place when the file was backed up.
e Restore files as of

Restores files as they existed on a specified date. Click the calendar icon to display the calendar widget.
f Find files... Searches for a file name or name pattern.
g File tree

Displays a list of files that are backed up from this device. Select files and folders to restore them. Click the arrow next to a file to view and select a specific version of that file to restore.

Time stamps next to file versions are displayed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
h Display hidden files Displays hidden files, such as system files in the list of files to restore.
Hidden Windows files are always listed
Code42 does not support metadata for hidden Windows files. Therefore, hidden files in Windows always appear on Restore screens in the Code42 agent and Code42 console, regardless of whether you've chosen to show or hide them.
i Display deleted files Displays files that have been deleted from the computer in the list of files to restore.
j Full Paths

Selects to restore files and folders using their original full folder and path structure or to restore to a single location.
k Restore details Displays the number of folders, the number of files, and the total size selected to restore.
l Cancel Closes the window without restoring.
m Restore Restores selected files.
