Changes to storage destinations in November 2021
Overview
Beginning in November 2021, we added a new storage destination for customers using Incydr Basic and Advanced product plans as part of an infrastructure change. This additional storage destination provides performance benefits and is available at no extra charge. This article describes the change and answers frequently asked questions.
Affects
This change affects only customers with Incydr Basic and Advanced product plans. It does not apply to customers using any other Code42 products or product plans.
Why this change?
We made this change as part of ongoing maintenance and upgrades to our storage server architecture. This new storage destination offers:
- Increased network performance
- Improved redundancy
- A smaller Code42 app memory footprint
- Storage in the same geographical region as your existing destination
Changes to the Code42 console and Code42 app
An additional destination appears in the Code42 console and Code42 app.
Destinations
The new destination appears in the list of destinations for your organization in the Code42 console and in the Code42 app.
In order for the new destination to be available to a device, the device must have a supported Code42 app version.
Code42 console
The new destination appears in Organization Details > Destinations. The new destination contains the word "Destination." In the example below, Code42 Cloud USA West is the existing destination. Code42 Destination US West is the new destination.
Code42 app
The new destination appears in Device Preferences > Destinations. The new destination contains the word "Destination." For example, Code42 Cloud USA East is an existing destination. Code42 Destination US East is the new destination.
Restore files
When you restore files, you must select from which destination to restore. If you're restoring files not currently on the endpoint, select the existing destination rather than the newly added one.
Frequently asked questions
Starting March 25th 2022, we are removing the storage destination that uses the previous infrastructure. If you have files that are only backed up to the storage destination that uses the previous infrastructure, and you want to keep those files, restore them to an active device before March 24, 2022. For more details, see Changes to storage destinations in March 2022.
Users may experience additional bandwidth, CPU, or memory consumption after the new destination is added, as data is initially uploaded to the new destination. This impact to performance is temporary (typically around 5-72 hours). For details on managing performance, see:
Going forward, the new destination offers improved network performance.
No. Adding this new, additional storage destination is part of a company initiative to improve our offerings going forward.
