The Code42 app is designed to help you protect your data with a secure and comprehensive backup strategy. We strongly believe you shouldn't rely on a single destination for backup, even our CrashPlan PRO Online cloud. That’s why we recommend you back up to multiple destinations, both onsite and offsite. Doing so protects your data so that you can get it back if disaster strikes.
Consider the following options for backing up to multiple destinations.
Onsite and offsite backups
Destinations can either be onsite, meaning the destination is located in the same physical location as the device it backs up, or offsite, meaning the destination is stored in a physical location separate from the device it backs up.
A comprehensive backup strategy includes backing up to multiple destinations, so while your files are stored safely in the CrashPlan PRO Online, you also have a local copy available for quick access. With the Code42 app, you can back up to a drive on or attached to your device as well as CrashPlan PRO Online or to any combination of these destinations.
Create a comprehensive backup strategy
Backing up your data to multiple destinations that are both on and offsite gives you a solid disaster recovery plan for your data. Code42 recommends:
- Offsite destinations: such as the CrashPlan PRO Online
- Onsite destinations: such as a local internal hard drive or an external hard drive.
This way, you have a complete backup no matter what the circumstance, and have redundancy if one backup destination is inaccessible or damaged.
Using backup sets, you can fine-tune the files backed up to each destination. For example, if you have information you want stored in only one location, or a couple of files you need backed up only once a week instead of continuously, you can tailor the Code42 app's settings to your needs.
