This page lists new features and bug fixes for Code42 app version 8.8.
For the Code42 cloud, see Code42 cloud release notes.
Code42 app version 8.8.5
User devices begin automatically upgrading May 4, 2022, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.
Bug fixes
- Fixed several issues for devices backing up to new storage destinations as part of recent changes to Code42 cloud infrastructure:
- Smaller files are now prioritized for backup ahead of larger files. This helps the initial backup progress more quickly.
- Linux devices could restart the initial backup after a Code42 app upgrade.
- Updates to logging.
- Other performance and stability improvements.
- Fixed an issue for Windows devices using the User State Migration Tool (USMT) where contents of the user_settings directory were not available to restore under certain circumstances.
Code42 app version 8.8.4
User devices begin automatically upgrading March 24, 2022, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.
Bug fixes
- For devices backing up to new storage destinations as part of recent changes to Code42 cloud infrastructure, fixed several intermittent issues, including:
- Backups paused due to a lost network connection did not resume automatically after reconnecting.
- The file verification scan never completed on some macOS devices.
- Backup progress was very slow on some devices.
Code42 app version 8.8.3
User devices begin automatically upgrading February 24, 2022, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.
Bug fixes
- For devices backing up to new storage destinations as part of recent changes to Code42 cloud infrastructure, fixed several intermittent issues, including:
- Backups to new destinations not starting.
- Files being unavailable to restore from new destinations.
- Backup archives on new destinations reporting the incorrect size.
- Improvements to archive maintenance.
- Other performance and stability improvements.
Code42 app version 8.8.2
User devices begin automatically upgrading January 18, 2022, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.
Features
Improved performance on Macs with the Apple M1 processor
A dedicated Code42 app optimized for devices with the M1 (Apple Silicon) processor offers better performance on M1 devices.
- Devices with the M1 processor will automatically switch to the new optimized app during the upgrade to version 8.8.2.
- Intel-based Macs continue to use the existing Code42 app.
- Both versions of the app are available from the App Downloads screen in the Code42 console.
Enhancements and updates
- Security updates.
- Updated the Log4j library from version 2.16.0 to version 2.17.1 to further mitigate CVE-2021-45105, CVE-2021-44832, and CVE- 2021-45046.
Bug fixes
- Performance and stability improvements to both Incydr and backup processes.
- Fixed an issue introduced in version 8.8.0 on Windows devices where the Process name in Task Manager appeared as "Code42-App-Launcher." Now the name once again appears as "Code42."
- Fixed an issue where the Code42 app could prevent users from renaming or deleting files in a OneDrive folder under specific circumstances.
Known issue
- The new Code42 app optimized for Mac devices with the M1 processor requires Rosetta 2 to complete the installation process. However, once the app installation is complete, performance is greatly improved because the primary functions of the app no longer use Rosetta 2. The small remaining dependencies on Rosetta 2 will be removed in a future release.
Code42 app version 8.8.1
User devices begin automatically upgrading December 20, 2021, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.
- Updated the Log4j library from version 2.15 to version 2.16. This provides additional mitigation against CVE 2021-44228 and also mitigates CVE-2021-45046.
User devices begin automatically upgrading December 14, 2021, unless your administrator configured a client update delay.
- Updated the Log4j library to version 2.15.0 to mitigate security vulnerability CVE 2021-44228.
- Fixed a rare issue where some Windows devices did not successfully upgrade to Code42 app version 8.8.0.
Code42 app version 8.8.0
Code42 app version 8.8.0 is no longer available. It is being replaced by version 8.8.1, which contains all of the 8.8.0 updates below, plus one additional Windows upgrade bug fix.
Enhancements and updates
- Security updates to mitigate CVE-2021-43269.
- On Linux devices, added present and away CPU settings to the Device Preferences > Usage tab. Previously, Linux CPU settings could only be set in the Code42 console.
Bug fixes
- Performance and stability improvements to both security and backup processes.
- Fixed an issue where changes to the proxy auto-config (PAC) file were not applied to the Code42 app under certain circumstances.
The following bug fixes improve exfiltration detection and risk exposure reporting. While these fixes are included in Code42 app version 8.8.0, they primarily benefit security analyst and administrator users of the Code42 console.
- Fixed an issue where the Code42 app could prevent users from renaming files in a OneDrive folder under specific circumstances.
- Fixed an issue on Windows devices where opening local files with Firefox could generate false positive file upload events.
- Fixed an issue where OneDrive file events could include unexpected Sync username values.
- Fixed an issue where the Sync username was reported as "Unknown" for some Box Drive events on Mac devices.

- Fixed several issues to improve fidelity of reported Active tab title and URL values.
- Fixed an issue where the
agent.userhome
command did not update the file path selection under certain circumstances. - Fixed an issue where Apple M1 devices did not stop backing up when the remaining battery fell below the Stop when battery reaches percentage setting.
Known issue
- On Mac devices, upgrading to Code42 app version 8.8 may cause the macOS dock to restart.
