  • Performance and stability improvements.
  • On Macs, fixed an issue where files could not be restored to the "original location" if the source backup device and target restore device had different processor types. Now, restoring to the original location between devices with M1 and Intel processors works as expected.
  • Fixed a rare issue where attempting to restore files from the Code42 console could fail with the message "Status: Error calculating totals. Try it again."

  • Security updates.
  • Fixed several issues for Macs with the M1 processor where:
    • The Code42 app could use unexpectedly high amounts of memory.
    • Rosetta 2 was required to complete the installation process (even though the primary functions of the app did not use Rosetta 2).
    • The Apple System Report settings could list the Code42 application type as "iOS." Now, it correctly displays "Apple Silicon."
  • Fixed an issue where the file verification scan ran more frequently than scheduled on some devices.
  • Mac devices no longer use audio and video activity to determine if the user is away or present.
  • For Macs with an external graphics cards (eGPU), fixed an issue where the Code42 app could prevent proper disconnection of the eGPU.
  • Fixed an issue affecting some Mac devices where the user was always detected as being "present."
  • Fixed an issue where the proxy auto-config (PAC) file was not evaluated correctly if the last line in the file was a comment (starting with //).
  • Fixed an issue where Code42 app upgrades could fail to download for devices connected to the Internet via a proxy server.
  • Updates to logging.
  • Other performance and stability improvements.

Code42 app version 8.8.2

January 18, 2022

Improved performance on Macs with the Apple M1 processor

A dedicated Code42 app optimized for devices with the M1 (Apple Silicon) processor offers better performance on M1 devices.

  • Devices with the M1 processor will automatically switch to the new optimized app during the upgrade to version 8.8.2.
  • Intel-based Macs continue to use the existing Code42 app.
  • Both versions of the app are available from the App Downloads screen in the Code42 console.

Other Code42 app updates

  • Updated the Log4j library from version 2.16.0 to version 2.17.1 to further mitigate CVE-2021-45105, CVE-2021-44832, and CVE- 2021-45046.
  • Security updates.
  • Performance and stability improvements.
  • Fixed an issue introduced in version 8.8.0 on Windows devices where the Process name in Task Manager appeared as "Code42-App-Launcher." Now the name once again appears as "Code42."

Known issue

  • The new Code42 app optimized for Mac devices with the M1 processor requires Rosetta 2 to complete the installation process. However, once the app installation is complete, performance is greatly improved because the primary functions of the app no longer use Rosetta 2. The small remaining dependencies on Rosetta 2 will be removed in a future release.
