Overview

The Code42 agent can back up your Dropbox folder just like any other folder containing personal files. Backing up your Dropbox folder is a great way to protect yourself against accidentally deleted files. This tutorial explains how to update your file selection to include Dropbox folders and files.

Non-Code42 products
Information about products from other manufacturers is intended as a resource to help you get the most out of Code42 products. However, our Technical Support Engineers cannot provide direct assistance for these products. For assistance with products not developed by Code42, contact the product's manufacturer.

Considerations

  • Files and folders placed in your Dropbox folder are stored directly on your computer's hard drive. The Code42 agent can back up these files as long as they are included in your backup file selection.
  • If you use the Dropbox Smart Sync feature to store your files online, you must make sure the files are available locally before you can back them up with the Code42 agent. Right-click a file, and choose Local from the Smart Sync menu to download the file to your computer and make it available locally.

Steps

Dropbox creates a folder for your files that is located within the user folder on your computer. The Code42 agent app backs up your user folder by default. If you have changed your file selection, verify that the Dropbox folder on your computer is selected for backup.

  1. Go to Manage Files.
  2. Navigate to the Dropbox folder:
    • Windows
      C:\Users\<Your user name>\Dropbox
    • Mac
      /Users/<Your user name>/Dropbox
  3. Select the Dropbox folder.
  4. Click Save.
The Code42 agent begins a file verification scan and then backs up the new files.
