Device Status report reference

Overview

The Device Status report gives you visibility to address common problems and questions about devices in your Code42 environment. To analyze the data in-depth, export the report as a CSV file and use the data-analysis tool of your choice.

Device Status report

Specify at least one search criterion
In very large Code42 environments (100,000+ devices), running this report without specifying any search criteria can cause noticeable performance delays. Specify search criteria whenever possible.

To access the Device Status report:

  1. Sign in to the Code42 console.
  2. From the menu, select Administration > Status > Reporting.
  3. If needed, click the Device Status tab.

a Device Searches on device name or device external reference.
b Device Status

Filters by the device status:
c Device Alerts

Filters by the device alert status:

  • Any
  • No alerts
  • No backup alerts
  • Backup alert: Warning
  • Backup alert: Critical 
  • Alerts
d User Profile Status

This only applies to Windows devices with Microsoft's User State Migration Tool (USMT).

 

Filters by the most recent User Profile Backup Status. Choose:

  • Created: the .MIG file was successfully created by ScanState, but the backup status is unavailable. The backup status may be unavailable soon after initially enabling user profile status backup.
  • Created, Backed Up: the .MIG file was successfully created by ScanState and is backed up by the Code42 agent.
  • Created, Not backed Up: the .MIG file was successfully created by ScanState, but it is not backed up by the Code42 agent.
  • Failed: the .MIG file failed to be created by ScanState.
  • N/A: Indicates either 1) the device has not reported a success or failure message, 2) User Profile Backup is not enabled for this device's organization, or 3) This is a non-Windows device.

To view the User Profile Status in the search results, click the column selector icon Column selector icon and select User Profile Status.
e User Searches on username, email address, first name, last name, or user external reference.
 
f User Status

Filters by user status:
g Destination Searches on destination name.
h Organization Searches on organization name or organization external reference.
i OS

Filters by device operating system:

  • Any
  • Linux
  • Mac
  • Windows
j Restrict to UID Filters the search results by the unique identifier of an organization, user, device, or destination.
k UID If Restrict to UID (j) is selected, defines the unique identifier to filter by.
l Include child organizations When restricting to a specific Organization UID, specifies whether or not to include child organizations in the search results.
m Run Report

Returns search results based on selected criteria.

 

Results are limited to the first 1,000 returned. Refine your search to narrow your search results, or use the Code42 API DeviceBackupReport resource to return more than 1,000 results.

Device Status report search results

Item Description
a Column selector

Displays a list of all possible columns to include in the search results.

The default columns are listed in items b - m below.

b Device Uid Unique identifier for the device.
c Device Name

The name assigned to the device by Code42. By default, Device Name uses the Hostname reported by the device's operating system, but users and administrators can change the Device Name in the Code42 agent and Code42 console.
d Hostname

The name of the device as reported by the device's operating system. The Hostname is a device property that is not managed by Code42. If an authorized user changes the hostname of the device, the new hostname may take up to 24 hours to update in the Code42 console.

 
e Device Status

Possible device states:
f Device Alerts

Filters by devices that have not backed up recently. Possible alert states:
g User Name Code42 username of the user.
h User Status

Filters by user status. Possible user states:
i Destination Name Name of the destination.
j Last Activity Date and time that the device last sent backup data to the specified destination.
k Last Completed Backup Date Date and time that the device last completed a backup to the specified destination.
l Backup % Complete Percentage of files selected for backup that are currently backed up.
m Cold Storage

Cold storage status of the device's archive.

  • True indicates that a device's archive is in cold storage.
  • False indicates that a device's archive is not in cold storage.
n Organization Name Name of the device's organization.
o Export Records Downloads a CSV file of all search results.
p Page size Select to display 10, 25, 50, or 100 results per page.
Additional data options available from the column selector (a).
  Device External Reference External reference information for the device.
  User Profile Status

The most recent User Profile Backup status. This only applies to Windows devices with Microsoft's User State Migration Tool (USMT). Choose:

  • Created: the .MIG file was successfully created by ScanState, but the backup status is unavailable. The backup status may be unavailable soon after initially enabling user profile status backup.
  • Created, Backed Up: the .MIG file was successfully created by ScanState and is backed up by the Code42 agent.
  • Created, Not backed Up: the .MIG file was successfully created by ScanState, but it is not backed up by the Code42 agent.
  • Failed: the .MIG file failed to be created by ScanState.
  • N/A: Indicates either 1) the device has not reported a success or failure message, 2) User Profile Backup is not enabled for this device's organization, or 3) This is a non-Windows device.
  User Email Email address for the user.
  User UID Unique identifier of the user.
  User External Reference External reference for the user.
  Destination UID Unique identifier of the destination.
  Last Connected Date Date and time that the device last connected to the specified destination.
  Created Date Date and time this device was created in the Code42 environment.
  Backup Set Name The name of the backup set. This can help you distinguish between multiple rows for the same device. 
  Archive Size Total number of bytes consumed by backed up files.
  Archive GUID Globally unique identifier of the backup archive.
  Size of Selected Files Total number of bytes selected for backup.
  Organization UID Unique identifier of the organization.
  Organization External Reference External reference information for the organization.
  Client Version

Version number of the Code42 agent installed on the device, including the build number. For example, 6.9.2.123 indicates Code42 agent version 6.9.2, build 123.
  OS Device operating system.
  OS Version Device operating system version.
  IP Address Local IP address of the device.
  Remote Address External IP address of the device.
  Server Name Name of the server containing the device's backup archive.
  Server UID Unique identifier of the server.
