OS X Menu Bar Reference (Version 5.0.x Of The CrashPlan App)

Overview

The menu bar offers OS X users quick access to basic Code42 CrashPlan operations.

If you are using version 5.1.x or later of the CrashPlan app, see the reference guide for the Notification Area And Menu Bar App instead.

Launch the menu bar

If the CrashPlan icon is not visible in the menu bar, launch it from the CrashPlan app.

  1. Open the CrashPlan app.
  2. Select Details for your device.
  3. Click the arrow next to your device name.
  4. Select Device preferences > General.
  5. Click Launch.

Menu bar options

To access the menu bar options, click the CrashPlan icon CrashPlan menu icon in the top right of the screen.

Item Description
a Backup status details Indicates backup in progress or when the next backup is scheduled to occur. Click the "i" icon to show or hide details about the number and size of files being backed up.
b Backup progress Indicates completion status of backup.
c Start/pause backup

Starts or pauses backup to the destination.

d Pause Sets a temporary time period to pause backups and downloads, ranging from one hour to one day. You can't download or back up files while the CrashPlan service is paused.
e Show Code42 CrashPlan... Opens the CrashPlan app.
f Manage account online... Opens your account settings in the administration console.
g Preferences... Sets preferences for menu bar appearance and behavior.
h Quit Quits the CrashPlan app and the CrashPlan menu bar.

Menu bar preferences

To access menu bar preferences, click the CrashPlan icon in the menu bar and select Preferences.

Item Description
a Startup Selected - Launches the CrashPlan menu bar when you log in to your device.
Deselected - Requires you to launch the CrashPlan menu bar from the desktop.
b Transfer Rate Effective - Displays transfer rate that includes compression and data de-duplication.
Actual - Displays transfer rate without accounting for compression and data de-duplication.
