Overview

When you install the CrashPlan app on Linux, the installer may report a complete installation but fails to launch. This article provides steps to remove the broken installation and successfully reinstall the CrashPlan app.

Considerations

This issue only occurs when extracting the installer and choosing not to re-create the folder structure. As a result, all of the extracted files are created in the same directory.

Recommended solution

To resolve the issue, follow the steps in this section.

  1. Perform a complete uninstall of the CrashPlan app.
  2. Extract the CrashPlan archive using the tar command:
    tar -xzf {CrashPlan Installer}.tgz
  3. Navigate to the extracted directory and install the CrashPlan app.
