Overview

This article provides instructions for installing the Code42 app on your computer.

Before you begin

  • Before you install the Code42 app, make sure your computer meets the system requirements for your operating system.
  • If you are reinstalling the Code42 app, please refer to our uninstall and reinstall guide instead.
  • (Windows and OS X) If your computer has multiple user accounts and you want to back up each account separately, follow our instructions to install the Code42 app for each user instead.
  • If you are installing Code42 for Enterprise, see your system administrator for specific instructions on downloading and installing the Code42 app. Instructions may vary for your environment.

Considerations

  • The default install location for the Code42 app varies by operating system. You should not move or rename the application file after installation. Moving or renaming the Code42 app may result in unexpected behavior.
  • (OS X only) If your computer uses Gatekeeper and only allows software from the Mac App Store, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General and allow applications downloaded from Mac App Store and identified developers. Gatekeeper settings can be reverted after installing.
  • (OS X only) If you are backing up a File Vault-protected account on Mac OS X 10.6 or earlier, see our tutorial on Using CrashPlan with FileVault for additional instructions.
