This article describes the considerations for changing the password of your on-premises authority server's internal H2 database.
Code42 environments using an external PostgreSQL database are not affected. To see which database you have, follow these steps to identify your authority server database type.
- If you change the database password, you are responsible for storing it in a safe location. If you lose the password, Code42 Customer Champions will not be able to help you with any problems that require database access. This may render your Code42 environment completely unrecoverable.
- Changing the database password does add an extra level of protection to your Code42 environment, but the database is difficult to access even without changing the password. Accessing the internal database requires all of the following:
- Administrator access to the Code42 console
- Direct access to the authority server, or a firewall configuration that opens the database port on the authority server
- Knowledge of the existing password
