Organization settings reference

The Settings > Organization options specify the default organization settings (storage quotas, destinations, reporting, indexing, and security) for any new organizations you create. These system-wide settings also affect settings for organizations that are configured to inherit the system-wide settings.

Disabled inheritance
If you disable inheritance for an organization, that organization is not affected by changes to its parent organization.

Adjust organization quotas from Settings > Organization > Quotas.

  • This setting does not apply to device restores.
  • A value of 0 MB disables zip file restores for administrators.
  • Select Unlimited to set no web restore limit.

1 Note: The default restore limit for zip files is 250 MB. Even though this limit can be adjusted, zip files have their own inherent size limitations. Our Customer Champions typically see that file selections larger than 1 GB fail. Web restores are are useful for quick, small downloads in emergency situations, or when other restore methods are not available. Large restores should be done through the Code42 app or using the device restore feature.

Configure destinations available to an organization from Settings > Organization > Destinations.

organization destination

Item Description
a Destinations Enable or disable backup and syncing to each of the configured destinations for users within this organization.
b Account devices Enable to permit users to back up to other devices within their own accounts.

Configure LDAP, RADIUS, single sign-on, default user roles, local two-factor authentication, web restores, and client visibility for your organization from Settings > Organization > Security.

Settings Organization Security

Item Description

  • Local: Users authenticate against the local Code42 platform directory.
  • LDAP: Users authenticate against an LDAP directory. LDAP must be selected from Select a directory service.
  • SSO: Users authenticate against one of the offered single sign-on identity providers. One or more identity providers must be selected in Choose provider(s).
  • RADIUS: Users authenticate against a RADIUS server. One or more RADIUS servers must be selected in Choose provider(s).

Choose provider(s)

SSO and RADIUS only

c Select a directory service

Sets the directory service that manages user groups and user attributes for the system-wide organization:

Choose directory service(s)

LDAP only

Specifies the LDAP server that provides directory services. Options appear based on your LDAP configuration. Requires configuration of an LDAP server via Settings > Security > LDAP.

e Add user roles Adds user roles for new users added to the organization. This option is only available if Inherit default roles from parent is disabled. Entering an existing role and clicking + sets the role as default for all new users in the organization. Multiple default users roles can be configured. If no roles are entered, system defaults are used.
f Roles Lists the roles for the users in the organization. Click + to add or edit roles for the organization.

Local Two-Factor Authentication

(Version 8.2 and later)

Defines two-factor authentication requirements for accessing the Code42 console.

  • Enabled: Requires affected users to configure two-factor authentication. Users must then provide a one-time authentication code in addition to their Code42 username and password to access the Code42 console.
  • Disabled: Locally authenticated users are only required to provide their Code42 username and password to access the Code42 console.

Affected users:

  • If this organization only uses Local authentication (see item e above), this setting applies to all users.
  • This setting does not apply to:
    • The Code42 app
    • Any existing multi-factor authentication requirements managed by your external identity provider

See Two-factor authentication for local users for more details.

(Version 7.0 and later)

Click the icon to lock or unlock each setting.

When locked:

  • The setting is pushed to all child organizations
  • Child organizations cannot change the setting

When unlocked:

  • Child organizations can change the setting independently of the parent organization
i Web restores
(Version 6.8.3 and later)

Sets whether users can restore files from the Code42 console using the server-side web restore methods (server file system and zip file restore types):

  • Enabled: Users in the organization can perform server-side web restores.
  • Disabled: Users in the organization cannot perform server-side web restores.

The setting only applies to the server file system and zip file web restore types; it does not apply to the device web restore type. It may take up to a day before all users in the organization are updated with the new setting.

To change the setting, administrators must have the SYSADMIN or Server Administrator role. Clicking the Lock button prevents administrators in child organizations from changing the setting.

Increased security
Disable zip file web restores to limit file exfiltration potential by preventing users from downloading data in a browser and the decryption of archive data by the Code42 server system. This secures user data from access by administrators.

Zip file web restores must be disabled for NIST 800-171 compliance

Client Visibility

(Version 7.0 and later)

Configures Code42 app visibility on user devices.

  • Visible (default): Allows users to see and interact with the Code42 app.
  • Hidden: Hides most user-facing elements of the Code42 app on the device. For example, the Code42 app does not appear in the Start Menu and Add/Remove Programs (Windows) or the Dock (Mac).

Setting the visibility to Hidden does not uninstall any Code42 components. Security monitoring and file backups continue to run in the background.

See Show or hide Code42 app visibility on user devices for more details.
