Overview

Administrators may have different expectations and requirements for storage of CrashPlan data and SharePlan data. While each destination accepts both CrashPlan and SharePlan data by default, you can configure each destination to accept data from CrashPlan, SharePlan, or both applications.

This article applies to version 4.2 and later of the Code42 platform.

Considerations

Accepted applications can be configured only for destinations, not for servers and store points. Servers and store points within a destination inherit the destination's settings.
Each destination accepts both CrashPlan and SharePlan data by default.

Removing accepted applications from a destination

We recommend configuring accepted applications before users send CrashPlan or SharePlan data to the destination.

Potential for data loss
The actions described here can cause permanent data loss. If you have questions, contact our Customer Champions for Code42 for Enterprise support or CrashPlan for Small Business support before continuing.

If you remove an accepted application from a destination, all data for that application that currently exists on the destination is immediately and permanently removed. This data cannot be recovered.

Provider storage in version 4.2 of the Code42 platform

If your version 4.2 Code42 environment is a storage provider, do not deselect any accepted applications. Doing so can result in unexpected behavior, including data loss.

If your Code42 environment is a storage provider, we recommend upgrading to version 4.3 or later.

Planning accepted applications in your Code42 environment

When setting up a Code42 environment, administrators often have different requirements, expectations, and priorities for CrashPlan and SharePlan operations. Based on these considerations, you may choose to create multiple destinations in your Code42 environment to store CrashPlan and SharePlan data on destinations with appropriate storage, performance, and networking characteristics.

Disk performance	Capacity is often considered more important than speed. Backups are accessed relatively infrequently. Backups usually contain large quantities of data. Only one user at a time usually accesses backup data.	Speed is often considered more important than capacity. Sync and share data is often more frequently accessed. Only certain files, rather than an entire user directory, are usually synced and shared. Multiple users are often working with sync and share data.
Security & Availability	Backup data is usually heavily secured. Entire user directories are backed up, including potentially sensitive data. Only a few users can access data: Users who own the original data Enterprise administrators	Sync and share data is often made less secure by design. Only certain files and folders are synced and shared. Many users can be granted access to data: Internal employees External collaborators

Configure accepted applications

To configure whether a destination accepts CrashPlan data, SharePlan data, or both:

Sign in to your Code42 console.
Go to Destinations.
(Optional) Create a new destination.
Select a destination.
From the action menu, select Edit.
Choose which applications store data on this destination:
- Select CrashPlan, SharePlan, or both to define which data the destination accepts.
- Deselect CrashPlan or SharePlan to prevent the destination from accepting an application's data.
  The Code42 console displays a data loss warning when deselecting an application. Type I AGREE to continue.

Deselecting deletes data
Deselecting CrashPlan or SharePlan immediately and permanently removes all existing data for that application from this destination.

Click Save.
