Overview

The Code42 command-line interface (CLI) tool offers a way to interact with your Code42 environment without using the Code42 console or making API calls directly. For example, you can use it to manage users on the Departing Employees list or High Risk Employees list. This article provides instructions for using the Code42 CLI to add and remove users from the Departing Employees list or High Risk Employees list, as well as update the information for a user.

You can also use the Code42 CLI to extract Code42 data for use in a security information and event management (SIEM) tool. For more information, see Integrate with a SIEM tool using the Code42 command-line interface.

Before you begin

To manage users on the Departing Employees list or High Risk Employees list with the Code42 CLI, you must first install and configure the Code42 CLI following the instructions in Set up the Code42 command-line interface

Manage Departing Employees list users

Use the departing-employee commands to add or remove employees on that that list, or update the details for a user. To see a list of all the users currently in your organization, you can export a list from the Users action menu

Get CSV template

To add multiple users to the Departing Employees list:

  1. Generate a CSV template. Below is an example command for generating a template to use to add employees to the Departing Employees list. Once generated, the CSV file is saved to your current working directory.

code42 departing-employee bulk generate-template add

  1. Use the CSV template to enter the employees' information. Only the Code42 username is required. If added, the departure date must be in YYYY-MM-DD format.
  2. Save the CSV file.

Add users to the Departing Employees list

Once you have entered the employees' information in the CSV file, use the bulk add command with the CSV file path to add multiple users at once. For example:

code42 departing-employee bulk add /Users/astrid.ludwig/add_departing_employee.csv

To add a single user to the Departing Employees list or update a user's information, use the following commands:

Command Description
add Add a single user to the Departing Employees list. You must also include the Code42 username of the employee.

--cloud-alias

An email alias other than the user's Code42 username that they use for cloud services such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or Box. (Optional)

If the Code42 username is the same alias used for cloud services, do not enter a cloud alias.

--departure-date The departure date for the employee, in YYYY-MM-DD format. (Optional)
--notes Notes about the employee (Optional)

Remove users

You can remove one or more users from the Departing Employees list.

Use remove to remove a single user.

To remove multiple users at once:

  1. Create a CSV file with one username per line.
  2. Save the file to your current working directory.
  3. Use the bulk remove command with the file path of the CSV you created. For example:

code42 departing-employee bulk remove /Users/juan.holloway/remove_departing_employee.csv

Manage High Risk Employees list users

Use the high-risk-employee commands to add or remove employees on that that list, or update the details for a user.
