Overview

This tutorial describes how to use the device status report to identify which version of the Code42 app is installed on devices in your Code42 environment.

Step 1: Run a device status report

  1. Sign in to the administration console.
  2. Select Reporting > Device Status.
  3. (Optional) Enter search parameters, such as organization, device status, or operating system (OS). To generate a list of all devices in your Code42 environment, leave all fields blank.Device Status Report
  4. Click Run Report.
  5. Click the column selector icon and select DeviceUid and Client Version.

Step 2: View results

Option A: View results in the Reporting web app

This method requires you to page through the results if there are more than 50 devices.

Review the list to determine which Code42 app versions are installed in your Code42 environment and how many devices are using each version.

The last three digits of the version number denote the Code42 app version. For example, a device listing the version number 1512021600672 means the device is running Code42 app version 6.7.2.

Option B: Export results to CSV

Use this method to view all of the results at once (if there are more than 50 devices).

  1. Click Export Records.
The CSV file is generated and downloads.
  2. Open the CSV file in a spreadsheet application such as Microsoft Excel.
In some spreadsheet applications, including Excel, opening the CSV file may default to displaying longer numbers in scientific notation format (for example, 6.60805E+17). If this occurs:
    1. Instead of opening the CSV file directly, first open Excel and choose to import the CSV file.
    2. In the Import Wizard, select the version column, deviceUid column, and any other column with large numeric values you want to review.
    3. Change the column data format from General to Text.
  3. Sort the results by the version column.
The last three digits of the version number denote the Code42 app version. For example, a device listing the version number 1512021600672 means the device is running Code42 app version 6.7.2.
  4. Review the list to determine which Code42 app versions are installed in your Code42 environment and how many devices are using each version.
Using Microsoft Excel formulas to simplify results
Since you only need the last three digits in the version column to determine the Code42 app version number, using Excel's RIGHT function can simplify results and make it easier to sort by version. For example, if cell A1 contains the value 1512021600672, the formula =RIGHT(A1,3) returns the three right-most digits, which in this case is 672. If you apply this formula to all results, you can generate a new column containing only the three-digit version number.
