Overview

Use the Data Sources page in the administration console to add and manage third-party services that are connected to Code42 Forensic File Search. 

Data Sources

To add and manage the data sources used for Forensic File Search, go to Investigation > Data Sources.

a Add Data Source Adds and configures a new data source connection.
b Service

Displays the cloud service or email service data source:

  • Cloud services
    • Box

    • Google Drive
    • Microsoft OneDrive for Business
  • Email services
    • Google Gmail
    • Microsoft Office 365 DLP
c Service Type Displays the data source type, either Cloud or Email.
d Display Name

The name you use to distinguish between data sources. For example, if your organization has two different GSuite accounts for US and UK employees and you want to separately identify each account's Google Drives. This name must be unique.

e Authorized by Displays the name of the Code42 administrator user that configured the data source connection.
f Date Authorized When the data source was initially added. This does not update if you deauthorize and then resume monitoring the data source. 
g Scoped To

Indicates what's being monitored for the data source:

  • For cloud services, indicates the cloud services drives monitored, for example, drives for all users, drives of specific users, or drives of users in specific groups. For Google Drive, all shared drives are monitored. 
  • For email services, email accounts for all users are monitored.
h Status Displays the status of the connection between Code42 and the data source:
  • Initializing:
    • For cloud services, Code42 is indexing all of the files and users in your cloud environment. This gathers baseline data. We also show the number of user drives Code42 has processed out of the total number of user drives in your environment. Note that this number does not include shared drives.
    • For email services, Code42 is registering with the email service in order to begin monitoring email file attachment activity.
  • Monitoring:
    • For cloud services, the connection has completed the initial discovery and extraction. Code42 is monitoring for file events and checking for new files. By default Code42 checks the cloud service every 5 minutes. We also display the number of user drives we are monitoring in your environment. Note this does not include shared drives.
    • For email services, Code42 is connected to the data source and is monitoring email file attachment activity.
  • Error: There was an error with connecting to the data source.

  • Deauthorized: Code42 is not collecting new event activity from the data source.

  • Deauthorize: Stops collecting new event activity. 
  • Resume monitoring: Starts collecting new event activity from the data source.
