Overview

This article describes how to remove a private cloud destination from your Code42 environment.

If you are attempting to remove a public cloud destination from your Code42 environment, see Unable To Remove A Provider Destination.

Affects

All Code42 server versions

Considerations

  • A destination cannot be removed while it is still in use.
  • When removing a destination, troubleshoot any problems or issues in this order:
    1. Store point
    2. Code42 server
    3. Destination

Before you begin

  • Ensure all Code42 servers are powered on and running Code42 server version 3 or later.
  • Verify that all Code42 servers are available via the network settings configured on the authority server and storage server(s).
Migrate archives to avoid data loss
Removing a destination is a destructive action. If you want to keep any user archives from this destination, migrate all archives off of the destination before proceeding.

Recommended solution

Step 1: Purge cold storage

There cannot be any user data or devices present on a store point that is to be removed. Migrate or purge all data in cold storage. Address any error messages generated before proceeding.

Step 2: Stop offering the destination

Modify organization and device settings to stop offering the destination.

Disabled inheritance
If you disable inheritance for an organization, that organization is not affected by changes to its parent organization.

Edit system-wide organization settings

  1. Sign in to the administration console.
  2. Navigate to Settings > Organization > Destinations.
  3. Deselect the destination that you want to remove.
The administration console notifies you if data loss will occur.
  4. Type I AGREE.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Save.

Edit each organization that offers the destination

  1. Navigate to Organizations.
  2. Click the name of the organization that uses this destination.
  3. From the action menu, select Edit.
  4. Click Destinations, then deselect the destination that you want to remove.
The administration console notifies you if data loss will occur.
  5. Type I AGREE.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Repeat these steps for each organization that is not set to inherit the default organization or device settings.

Step 3: Remove the Store point

  1. Navigate to Storage > Store points.
  2. Select the store point to remove.
  3. From the action menu, select Remove.
  4. Select Remove, even if files are still present.
  5. Click Remove to remove the store point.

Step 4: Remove the Storage server

  1. Navigate to Storage > Servers.
  2. Select the storage server to remove.
  3. From the action menu, select Remove.
When the storage server is successfully removed, the administration console displays the message, "Successfully removed server".

Step 5: Remove the destination

  1. Navigate to Storage > Destinations.
  2. Click the name of the destination you want to remove.
  3. From the action menu, select Remove.
The administration console displays the message, "Removing this destination will no longer allow users to back up to this destination".
  4. Click OK.
