Overview
There are three different ways to add users to your Code42 environment via the administration console. This article covers each option and provides step-by-step instructions for adding users by:

- Uploading a text file with a list of users
- Sending email invitations

Watch the video below to learn how to add users manually, using a text file, or by email invitation. For more videos, visit the Code42 University.
Considerations
- A user account functions as a container for a single user’s devices. Users cannot restore files from an other user’s devices unless they have the appropriate administrative privileges.
- After a user is added, the Code42 app must be installed on each user's device in order to begin backup operations.
- Once a computer is added to a user account, it cannot be moved to a different user account without restarting the backup.
Before you begin
- For information about authenticating users with LDAP, please see Integrating With LDAP For User Authentication.
- Establish the primary and secondary network addresses under Settings > Server. This must be configured properly in order for users to sign in.
Add users manually
Entering information manually for each user is an easy way to quickly add a few users.
If you need to add many users at once, please see the options below for uploading a text file or sending email invitations, both of which are faster and more efficient ways of adding large groups of users.
Steps
- Sign in to the administration console.
- (version 6.5.x and later) Select Users > Active from the menu on the left.
(In versions 6.0.x, select Users.) - Select Add a new user:
- Select Add Users.
- Select an organization for the new user.
- Enter the user's first name, last name, email address, and password.
- Select Add User.
- Download and install the Code42 app on the endpoint device, and sign in with the new user account.
Add users by uploading a text file
Add users by uploading a text file to easily create many new user records at once. When adding users by uploading a text file, determine the usernames and passwords for all users you want to add.

1 The username field does not appear in your template if your Code42 for Enterprise environment is fully-hosted, or you have an on-premises authority server and selected Usernames are email addresses.
Invite users by email
- You can add users by email invitation to quickly deploy to any number of users. With this method, users receive email instructions for getting started on their own.
