Shared Link Settings Not Applying To Moved Child Organizations

Applies to:

    Overview

In certain circumstances, users in a child organization do not properly inherit the shared link settings of a parent organization.

    Affects

    Devices in SharePlan versions 4.1.4, 4.1.5, 4.1.5.1, and 4.1.6.

    Resolved in 4.2.0
This issue is resolved in version 4.2.0 of the Code42 platform. If possible, we recommend upgrading to version 4.2.0 or later.

    Diagnosing

This issue appears in the following situation:

    1. Your Code42 environment has two separate organizations
      • Parent Org 1 has disabled shared links
      • Parent Org 2 has enabled shared links
    2. Child Org is a child organization of Parent Org 1 and inherits its shared link settings
    3. You move Child Org from being a child of Parent Org 1 to being a child of Parent Org 2
    4. Users in Child Org are still unable to create shared links, despite Parent Org 2's shared link settings

Similarly, this issue can cause users to be able to create shared links despite belonging to a parent organization that has disabled shared links.

    Recommended solution

You can resolve this issue by causing the affected users' SharePlan devices to establish a new connection with your enterprise servers. The easiest way to force a new connection is to deauthorize the affected users' devices and instruct the users to sign in again.

    1. Sign in to your administration console
    2. Locate affected users
      1. Go to Organizations
      2. Select the child organization affected by this issue
      3. Click the number under Users to view the users in this organization
        Users in this organization
    3. Deauthorize each affected device
      1. Select a user
      2. In the User Details, click SharePlan to view the user's SharePlan devices
      3. Click a device to view its Device Details
Locate a device for a user
      4. Select Action menu > Deauthorize
The user is signed out of the device
        Deauthorize this device
      5. Repeat these steps for each device associated with each user in the affected organization

After deauthorizing all affected devices, instruct your users to sign in again to their SharePlan devices.
