Overview

The enterprise server may not start on OS X when the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7 is installed. When this occurs, the administration console does not load, and your browser may continue to display: "Loading... This may take several minutes."

Affects

Enterprise servers running on OS X with the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 7

Under the hood

The Oracle JRE 7 does not include the command line tools that the Code42 enterprise server needs to run. However, the Oracle Java Development Kit (JDK) 7 does include the necessary command line tools.

Recommended solution

To resolve the issue, download and install Oracle Java Development Kit (JDK) 7.

  1. Download Oracle JDK 7.
  2. Install JDK 7 on the host OS X server.
  3. Open the Terminal application.
  4. Run the following command to verify that the operating system recognizes Java:
    java -version
    Example expected output:
    Administrators-Mac:~ admin$ java -version
    java version "1.7.0_71"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_71-b14)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.71-b01, mixed mode)
