Enterprise Legacy Licensing

Overview

This enterprise licensing article applies to Code42 environments using perpetual licenses purchased in 2012 or earlier. For details on our current annual user licensing model, refer to our Enterprise Licensing article.

Add purchased licenses to your environment from the administration console under Licensing > Action menu > Add Product License Key.

Note: For details on per-device licensing, refer to our legacy licensing article for CrashPlan PROe version 3.4.x and earlier.

Licensing models

Your Code42 environment is licensed on a per-user basis. All users with one or more archives require an annual user subscription or perpetual license. The following scenarios provide examples of users who require a license and those who do not:

  • An active user with one or more CrashPlan or SharePlan archives
  • Deactivated user with a CrashPlan or SharePlan archive in cold storage
  • The local administrator account for your enterprise server
  • A user with an evaluation user account
  • Deactivated user whose archives have expired
  • Deactivated user whose archive has been permanently purged from your Code42 environment

Evaluation user accounts

CrashPlan

An evaluation user account is a free evaluation period for new user accounts. Evaluation user accounts allow you to add new users to your Code42 environment without waiting for licenses to be purchased and applied.

CrashPlan evaluation user accounts can back up and restore without an active license for up to 30 days. The evaluation period begins when the user account is created.

After 30 days, an evaluation user account must purchase and apply a license in order to back up or restore.

Perpetual licenses

Perpetual licenses were available for purchase through 2012. These licenses do not expire over time. You own the licenses, so you can use them indefinitely to back up and restore.

  • Perpetual licenses include one year of support and maintenance with initial purchase.
  • Support and maintenance coverage entitles you to software upgrades and technical support from our Customer Champions team. If support and maintenance licenses expire, your environment continues to function normally, including all backup and restore operations. However, you must renew your support and maintenance to receive assistance from Code42's Customer Champion team or if you want to upgrade your Code42 environment to a newer version.
  • Support and maintenance lapses:
    • If your support and maintenance has lapsed for up to 45 days, you must pay to backfill or “catch up” your support and maintenance to the current date, in addition to purchasing support and maintenance for the desired length going forward.
    • If your support and maintenance has lapsed for more than 45 days, you must purchase annual user licenses.
  • Support and maintenance time is spread across all of the current perpetual licenses. This is done to ensure that all users in the environment have the exact same support and maintenance expiration date.
    • For example, if you have 100 users backing up and you purchase and apply one year of coverage for 50 users, that support and maintenance license covers all 100 of your users for six months.

Licensing overview

The Licensing screens display all information about user licenses in your Code42 environment. Both tabs are displayed if you have both subscription-based and perpetual licenses. Code42 environments with only one type of license see only the information for that type of license. If you have no purchased licenses, or have not yet entered your perpetual licenses into a new installation of the enterprise server, the screen defaults to the Subscriptions view.

If you are within your 30-day trial period or if you have not yet entered purchased Product License Keys, you see the Subscriptions view.
f Perpetual Displays all information about your Code42 environment's perpetual licenses and perpetual support and maintenance. The tabs only display if you have both subscription-based and perpetual licenses.
g Purchase Licenses Takes you to the store where you can purchase additional, subscription-based user licenses.
h License Schedule - CrashPlan Contains information about when any of your CrashPlan PROe licenses are set to expire and how many licenses are affected. The License Schedule displays the next batch of licenses that will expire.
i License Schedule - SharePlan Contains information about when any of your SharePlan licenses are set to expire and how many licenses are affected. The License Schedule displays the next batch of licenses that will expire.
j Name Lists descriptive names for each of your CrashPlan PROe and SharePlan licenses.
k Type Shows whether each license applies to CrashPlan PROe or SharePlan
l Key The first 5 characters in the purchased Product License Key. Mouse over to display the full Product License Key.
m Users Number of users licensed by this Product License Key.
n Started Date the licenses went into effect.
o Expires Date the licenses expire. Any users licensed under this Product License Key will stop backing up (CrashPlan) and syncing (SharePlan) on this date if the licenses are not refreshed. Additionally, they will be unable to restore (CrashPlan) or share (SharePlan) until the licenses are refreshed.

Completely remove the selected Product License Key from your environment.

Removing licenses
Remove licenses with great care. If you have more active users than licenses purchased, backup will cease for some users, leaving those users unprotected.

Action menu

Command Description
Add Product License Key Enter additional Product License Keys to apply purchased products to your Code42 environment. You can enter multiple Product License Keys by separating each key with a new line.
Edit Master License Key Change which Master License Key your Code42 environment uses. Changing this value will remove any previously entered Product License Keys from your Code42 environment.
Registration Information Displays your Code42 environment's registration information, including your Registration Key, company, company contact name, and company contact person's email address. This is the information your organization provided on the Master License Key request form.
