Configuring Access To Shared Links

This article applies to CrashPlan PROe version 4.

Overview

SharePlan allows users to share links to files and folders with non-plan members, or with people who don't use SharePlan at all. Administrators have the ability to configure shared link settings, or disable shared links altogether, via the administration console.

Considerations

No account or sign-in is required to view or access a shared link, although administrators or users may choose to require a PIN to view a link.

Shared link settings

You can configure the behavior of your SharePlan environment's links at either a global or individual organization level. The administration console provides the following options and values to manage link behavior:

  • Enable/disable link sharing
  • Force PIN protection
  • Enable direct download when sharing single files
  • Number of days a link remains active
  • Number of times a link can be accessed
  • Host and port of shared links

Shared Link Settings

Disable link sharing

Link sharing is enabled by default. Follow the steps in this section to disable link sharing for a specific organization, or for all organizations that inherit settings from the top level organization settings.

Impact to existing links
If you disable link sharing, currently existing shared links will no longer be redeemable. However, links can be made available again by re-enabling link sharing.

Configuring a specific organization

Follow these steps to disable link sharing for only one organization.

  1. From the administration console, select Organizations.
  2. Select a specific organization.
  3. From the action menu, select Edit.
  4. Select Sharing.
  5. Deselect Enable link sharing.

Configuring global settings

Follow these steps to disable link sharing for your entire Code42 environment.

  1. From the administration console, select Settings > Organization.
  2. Select Sharing.
  3. Deselect Enable link sharing.

Force PIN protection

You can require anyone accessing shared links to enter a PIN before they are able to access the contents of links. If you do not force PIN protection, users have the ability to choose either a PIN-protected link or a non-protected link each time a link is created.

Configuring a specific organization

Follow these steps to force PIN protection for only one organization.

  1. From the administration console, select Organizations.
  2. Select a specific organization.
  3. From the action menu, select Edit.
  4. Select Sharing.
  5. Select Force PIN protection.

Configuring global settings

Follow these steps to force PIN protection for your entire Code42 environment.

  1. From the administration console, select Settings > Organization.
  2. Select Sharing.
  3. Select Force PIN protection.
Disabling inheritance
If inheritance is disabled for an organization, that organization is not affected by changes to its parent organization.

Direct download

For links to a single file, you can configure the link to download the file immediately, rather than opening the SharePlan download page.

Configuring a specific organization

Follow these steps to enable direct download for only one organization.

  1. From the administration console, select Organizations.
  2. Select a specific organization.
  3. From the action menu, select Edit.
  4. Select Sharing.
  5. Select Enable direct download.

Configuring global settings

Follow these steps to enable direct download for your entire Code42 environment.

  1. From the administration console, select Settings > Organization.
  2. Select Sharing.
  3. Select Enable direct download.

Link expiration settings

Configuring a specific organization

To set the maximum number of days a link remains active or the number of times the link can be accessed for a specific organization:

  1. From the administration console, select Organizations.
  2. Select a specific organization.
  3. From the action menu, select Edit.
  4. Select Sharing.
  5. Enter values in Maximum age per link or Maximum uses per link. Select Unlimited to allow unrestricted link access.
To edit these values, you must first deselect Inherit sharing settings from parent.

Configuring global settings

To set the maximum number of days a link remains active or the number of times the link can be accessed for your entire Code42 environment:

  1. From the administration console, select Settings > Organization.
  2. Select Sharing.
  3. Enter values in Maximum age per link or Maximum uses per link. Select Unlimited to allow unrestricted link access.

Shared link base URL

You can define a base URL for shared links using the administration console on your master server. This is a system-wide setting that allows for highly flexible options to manage shared link traffic in your environment. For example, you could define a base URL to:

  • Configure shared links to work with your load balancer
  • Mask the number and location of your destinations
  • Separate link redemption traffic from outside your network and link redemption traffic from inside your network

Before configuring this setting, you must configure your network (both internally and externally) to respond to requests for this URL. For additional details about configuring the base URL, including recommendations for different types of environments, see Configuring The Base URL For Secure Link Sharing.
