FAQs
Our customers asked for it. User-based licenses are more aligned with and better support how administrators manage their Code42 environments:
- Easier for administrators to effectively manage user backups and mobile device access
- Helps administrators ensure that users are covered and purchased licenses are fully utilized
A single user license for CrashPlan PROe supports up to four devices.
No worries - CrashPlan PROe will still back up data, and your users will still be able to access and manage their backup from all of their devices. Your service continues uninterrupted.
To prevent potential delays in support and upgrades, we recommend that you maintain an average of four devices per one user license across your entire deployment.
We knew some of our customers supported more than four devices per user, and we did not want to disrupt their CrashPlan PROe data protection..
In short – you get more device coverage for the same investment. For both annual and perpetual device licenses, upgrading to CrashPlan PROe version 3.5 or later converts your device licenses to user licenses. Note that existing perpetual device licenses become perpetual user licenses.
Example: Your environment runs CrashPlan PROe version 3.4.1.5, and you have 10 current device licenses. After upgrading to CrashPlan PROe version 3.5 or later, you have 10 user licenses. So, where you would have had to use three device licenses to cover a user who has a laptop, tablet, and mobile phone, now you only need to use one license to attain the same capabilities.
Please follow the normal upgrade procedure to upgrade your Code42 environment to the most current version.

An evaluation user account is a new capability available in CrashPlan PROe version 3.5 or later that allows you to create users and start backing up without having to wait for your procurement department to obtain additional licenses. New users can back up without an active license for up to 30 days following user account creation. After 30 days, the user must have an active license in order to back up or restore data.
CrashPlan PROe administrators will receive notifications in advance when licenses near the end of their licensing terms. Additionally, the administration console’s dashboard shows you what needs to be renewed and when.
In the event that a user license lapses, the user is unable to back up or restore until the license is refreshed. CrashPlan PROe still retains the user’s backup data, so, once the license is renewed, the user can resume backing up and restoring data.
We’re making it easier for customers to get up and running with CrashPlan PROe.
