    General Overview & Settings

    Overview

    The General page contains controls for basic settings related to:

    • Inbound backup configuration
    • When to consider the computer is not in use
    • CPU usage
    • Low battery options
    • Launching the menu bar (Mac) / notification area menu (Windows)
    • Changing the display language
    • Email notifications
    • Twitter configuration

    General Settings

    General Settings
     

    Item Description
    a Name for this computer   Name of the computer you are currently using.
    b Inbound backup from other computers - Configure...
    CrashPlan for Home and CrashPlan PROe only
    Settings for disabling/enabling inbound backups. See Inbound Backup section for detailed list of settings.
    c User is away when not active for
    Windows and Mac only
    Number of minutes of inactivity after which the user is considered “away”.
    d When user is away, use up to     Percent of CPU to use when user is not at the computer (away).
    Linux: Linux does not have an identifier to indicate when a user is away versus present. Consequently, CrashPlan always uses the "away" setting.
    e When user is present, use up to
    Windows and Mac only
    Percent of CPU to user when user is at computer (present).
    f Stop when battery reaches
    Windows and Mac only
    Pause backup when remaining battery power is below this level.
    g Launch menu bar
    Mac only
    Displays CrashPlan icon in menu bar.
    g Launch notification area menu
    Windows only
    Displays CrashPlan icon in notification area.
    h Show full file paths     Show full path (sequence of drives and folders to navigate to files) wherever filenames appear on the Backup tab.
    i Language

    Language in which CrashPlan is displayed.
    Automatic means that CrashPlan will display in the default language specified by your operating system.

    Note: Changing the language creates a new history file. Your old history file will no longer be available, even if you switch back to the original language. You need to exit and restart the CrashPlan app before your new selection takes effect.

    Backup Status and Alerts
    j Delivery time     Indicates when alerts can be delivered.

    CrashPlan for Home​ on Mac and Windows only

    Start the process for connecting CrashPlan with your Twitter account and specify when to receive alerts and status via Twitter. See Twitter Configure section for complete details.

    m Undo Changes     Reset to previous settings (same effect as cancel).
    n Save Apply changes.

    Inbound Backup From Other Computers

    CrashPlan for Home and CrashPlan PROe only

    Item Description
    a Accept inbound backups Indicates whether or not other computers can use this computer as a backup destination.
      Selected - Allow this computer to be a backup destination.
      Deselected - Do not allow this computer to be a backup destination.
    b Backup Code Code you provide to others so that this computer can be used as a backup destination.
    c Change Change the backup code. Click the Change button if you suspect your backup code is being used by unauthorized users and then share the new code with the people backing up to you.
    d Perform shallow maintenance every n days Checks the overall health of the archive and prunes versions and deleted files. This scan completes faster than the deeper maintenance “e”
    e Perform deep maintenance every n days Uses checksum of all data blocks to verify health of archive. This scan automatically occurs on each block silo that is able to reclaim space.
    f Listen Bind address IP address of the interface that listens for connections.
    g Listen Port Port the interface listens to for backup connections.
    h Allow backup and restores to run Always - CrashPlan is always able to receive backups and restore to other computers.
    i, j Between specified times - CrashPlan accepts backups and restores only during the time range you specify. For example, you may want to run between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.
    k You can also choose the days of the week that you want backups and restores to run.
    l Default backup archive location Shows location on file system where backup archives are stored.
    m Folder Change location where backup archives are stored.
    n Cancel Clear changes to this window.
    o Ok Accept changes to this window.

    Email Configure

    Email alerts are available for all versions of CrashPlan. However, email alerts may be disabled by an administrator in CrashPlan PROe.

    Email Settings

    Item Description
    a Send Backup Status Report every     Specify the number of days after which you want to receive your Backup Status Report. The default number of days is 7.
    b Send Now     Click Send Now to receive a Backup Status Report immediately.
    c Warn me when not backed up after     Specify the number of consecutive days of not backing up after which you want to receive an alert. The default number of days is 3.
    d Send Sample     Click Send Sample to send a sample warning.
    e Alert me when not backed up after     Specify the number of consecutive days of not backing up after which you want to receive an alert. The default number of days is 5.
    f Send Sample     Click Send Sample to send a sample alert.
    g From:     Email address sending status and alerts. Be sure to add this to your contact list!
    h To:     Email address receiving status and alerts.
    i Cancel     Cancels changes you made to this page.
    j Ok     Saves your changes.

    Twitter Configure

    Feature available in CrashPlan for Home for Mac and Windows only.

    Configure Twitter so you can begin receiving backup status reports and backup alerts via your Twitter account.

    Twitter Settings

    Item Description
    a Authorize Click to begin CrashPlan / Twitter authorization.
    b Send backup status every    Receive backup status via Twitter.
        Selected - Backup status will be sent via Twitter.
      Deselected - No backup status will be sent via Twitter.
    c — days     Specify the number of days after which you want to receive backup status. The default number of days is 1.
    d Send Now     Click Send Now to receive a status immediately.
    e Warn me when not backed up after     Receive warning via Twitter.
      Selected - Warning will be sent via Twitter.
      Deselected - No warning will be sent via Twitter.
    f — days     Specify the number of consecutive days of not backing up after which you want to receive an warning. The default number of days is 3.
    g Send Sample     Click Send Sample to send a sample warning.
    h Alert me when not backed up after     Receive alert via Twitter.
      Selected - Alert will be sent via Twitter.
      Deselected - No alert will be sent via Twitter.

    j Send Sample     Click Send Sample to send a sample alert.
    k Encourage your followers to back up with tweet     Indicates whether you want to tweet your followers to encourage them to back up with CrashPlan.
      Selected - Your followers will be notified.
      Deselected - Your followers won't be notified.
    l Text     Message to send your followers.
    m Notify your followers that they can back up to you     Indicates whether you want to tweet your followers to back up to you.
      Selected - Your followers will be notified.
      Deselected - Your followers won't be notified.
    n Text     Message to send your followers.
    o Cancel     Cancels changes you made to this page.
    p Ok     Saves your changes.

    Twitter Authorize

    Feature available in CrashPlan for Home for Mac and Windows only.

    Completing this form is a private communication between you and Twitter; CrashPlan never receives the information you enter here. Complete this form to authorize CrashPlan to send you status and alerts via Twitter.

    Twitter Authorization

    Item Description
    a Username or email address     Enter your Twitter username or email address that is associated with your Twitter account.
    b Password     Enter your Twitter password.
    c Authorize app Click to submit the information on this form to Twitter and enable CrashPlan to send messages to your Twitter account.
    d Cancel Click to close the form and go back to the previous page.
    e PIN Enter the PIN that Twitter displays (after you complete the form)
    f Cancel Cancels changes you made to this page.
    g Ok Saves your changes and completes the authorization.
