CrashPlan Central provides a secure, online backup destination for CrashPlan for Home subscribers. CrashPlan's online cloud destination offers the ultimate in data protection while also providing easy access to your files wherever and whenever you need them.
Backing up to CrashPlan Central in addition to other destinations such as external hard drives or other computers provides the best protection because it means your data is stored in multiple locations. This gives you more options for restoring files and also helps ensure that even if something happens to one of your backups, your files are still safe.
CrashPlan Central is free for 30 days. After that, if you'd like to continue backing up online, simply sign up for a CrashPlan for Home subscription.
CrashPlan Central is easy to set up and offers a convenient, super-reliable, always-on, offsite backup destination. It's ideally suited to be a key component of any backup strategy.
Because CrashPlan offers multi-destination onsite and offsite backup (and we're the only ones who do), we highly recommend that you back up your data to multiple locations. It is not a good idea to trust your data to only one location, so for the best protection, we recommend also backing up to a local USB drive, another computer you own, and/or a friend in addition to our servers.
Backing up to multiple locations not only offers the kind of redundancy that makes for better backup, it also gives you options for restoring your files more quickly and conveniently (since the fastest Internet connection is not nearly as fast as a USB drive that is directly connected to your computer). For example, if your computer's hard drive fails and you need your data right away, you will get your files back much faster from a USB drive or from another computer you can access directly than from an Internet connection.
Backing up to CrashPlan Central is still important though; keeping copies of your files on our secure servers ensures that if theft, fire or some other disaster strikes all the computers or drives at your local backup site, you can still recover your files. Backing up to CrashPlan Central also allows you to restore files to any computer with a web browser or to any mobile device anytime, anywhere.
See Choosing Destinations for more information about the benefits of each type of destination.
You can be confident that your files are secure with CrashPlan Central:
The following services are only available to our US customers backing up to CrashPlan Central and our Australian customers backing up to CrashPlan Australia.
Backing up your entire computer over the Internet to CrashPlan Central or CrashPlan Australia for the first time can take a while (several weeks or more, depending on the size of your backup selection and the speed of your Internet connection). Unless you are also backing up to a local destination, your files could be vulnerable during that time. If you would like to speed up your initial backup, you can purchase the Seeded Backup service from our US or Australia store.
Since restoring your entire computer from CrashPlan Central or CrashPlan Australia over an Internet connection can also take a long time, we provide you with the option to have your backup archive (which contains all of your files) shipped to you on an external hard drive via our Restore-To-Door service. If your data needs to be restored ASAP, you can purchase this service from our US or Australia store.
If you have CrashPlan for Home with a family subscription, you can use CrashPlan Central as a destination for multiple computers as long as CrashPlan is installed under the same account for all computers.
