Renaming Your Computer Backup

Overview

The CrashPlan app uses the information from your user account to assign a name for your computer. This tutorial shows how to change the name that CrashPlan assigned to your computer.

Change the computer name

Your computer backup name is a label for you to distinguish one computer from another. The name itself has no effect on your backup. The name that you choose displays in email reports, CrashPlan web app, and within the CrashPlan app. You can change the name of your computer backup from several places, as described below.

From the CrashPlan app

  1. Go to Settings > General.
  2. From Name for this computer, enter the new name.

  1. Click Save.

From the CrashPlan web app

(CrashPlan for Home only)

  1. Sign in to CrashPlan web app.
  2. Select the computer's name that you want to change.
  3. In the computer name field, enter the new computer name.

  1. Click Save.

From the Administration console

(CrashPlan PRO and Code42 for Enterprise only)

  1. Go to the administration console for the version of CrashPlan used by your business:

  2. Click My Profile.
  3. Select the computer's name that you want to change.
  4. Click the action menu.
  5. Select Edit.
  6. Next to Name for this device, enter the new name for the computer.
  7. Click Save.
