    This page contains a list of frequently asked questions for CrashPlan PROe users.

    Deciding What To Buy

    How is CrashPlan PROe licensed?

    CrashPlan PROe is licensed by annual user license. Each active user consumes a user license.

    Is there a free trial?

    Yes. There is a 30-day free trial to CrashPlan PROe. Your trial is a fully functional version of the software, and is exactly the same as the purchased software.

    Which type of license should I buy?

    There are two types of license, each with their own pricing programs. Choose the one that best fits your budget.

    • Annual Licenses: You can choose from 1-year, 2-year and 3-year plans. These plans include Support and Maintenance for the duration of the license.
    • Perpetual Licenses: If your business requires a perpetual licensing model, contact your sales representative (or contact Sales) to discuss perpetual licensing options. Perpetual licenses are a one-time cost and include 1 year of support and upgrades. After 1 year you must purchase support for each license to enjoy continued support and upgrades. Support and Maintenance packs are licensed per user, with a single support end-date for all users.

    If you decide to host your data with us, you'll also need to pay storage fees.

    Can I have a combination of annual and perpetual licenses on the same master server?

    Yes. You can have both types of licenses running within the same Code42 environment.

    Is CrashPlan PROe available outside of the US and Canada?

    Yes. CrashPlan PROe is available worldwide.

    Is CrashPlan PROe translated in other languages?

    Yes. The CrashPlan app is translated in over a dozen languages. To see the list of supported languages:

    1. Open the CrashPlan app
    2. Select Settings > General.
    3. Click the Language list to view current languages.

    Version 3.5.5 and later of the administration console also supports translation. In the administration console, go to Settings > Server > General > Language to view and select available languages.

    Is there a manual?

    Comprehensive product documentation is available on our support site. You can also easily save PDFs of single articles or groups of articles to create your own customized collection of product documentation.

    How do I buy?

    Please visit our online store to purchase or to request a quote.

    What payment methods do you accept?

    We accept payment via credit card.

    Do mobile devices count as a license?

    Beginning with CrashPlan PROe version 3.5, all licensing is user-based. A single user license covers up to 4 devices per user account. These 4 devices can be any combinations of computers or mobile devices.

    For installations running version 3.4.x and earlier, mobile devices consume a seat license.

    Australia And New Zealand Customers

    Are your prices in Australian dollars?

    Yes. Our Australian store displays prices in Australian dollars.

    Does the store price include tax for Australian customers?

    Yes. Australian customers will see prices that include GST.

    Do New Zealand customers pay GST?

    No. New Zealand customers are not required to pay GST.

    What payment options do you offer?

    You can choose to pay with Visa or Mastercard.

    Are your cloud services based in Australia?

    Yes. We have a data centre in Sydney.

    I have already purchased a plan through the US store. What price do I pay to renew?

    If you have already purchased a plan through the US store, we'll continue to honor renewals of that plan at the US renewal prices.

    Can I purchase subscriptions for multi-year plans?

    Our global credit card processing system prevents us from offering multi-year subscriptions in Australia and New Zealand at this time. We are hoping to change this, but for now, we're able to offer monthly and 1-year subscriptions in Australia and New Zealand.

    Why the big price difference between Australia and US offerings?

    Even though our operating costs in Australia are significantly higher than they are in the US, we are absorbing some of the increased cost to make us more in line with similar products. But this is not entirely altruistic on our part: We also hope to offset the higher cost of doing business in Australia with increased enterprise sales.

    Do you offer support in Australia?

    Other Questions

    Can I seed my backup to the PROe Cloud?

    Seeding (and the corresponding restore service) is available only to customers in Australia and New Zealand. This service is not available in the U.S. at this time. 

    Do you support backing up network drives?

    Yes, but only on Mac, Linux or Solaris.

    Due to security constraints within the Windows operating systems, CrashPlan PROe does not support backing up mapped or network drives on Windows.

    Where can I learn more?

    There are several different ways to get more information about CrashPlan PROe:

    • In PRO Online, hover over a part of the screen to see a brief description of the item.
    • In PRO Online, click the Help menu and choose the help option you want. The Documentation option displays a reference article about that page. All Documentation displays the CrashPlan PROe Online reference guide.
    • Search our support site for all our documentation about CrashPlan PROe.

    Can users back up to other users' computers?

    Starting with version 3.2.1, CrashPlan PROe does not allow creation of new client destinations for devices under different accounts. With multi-server support now a mainstay of CrashPlan PROe destination architecture, backing up to another user's device is no longer a best practice for enterprise multi-destination backup.

    Will backup to my existing CrashPlan PROe client destinations continue to work?

    Yes. Backup to CrashPlan PROe client destinations configured prior to CrashPlan PROe version 3.2.1 are unaffected. Backup will continue, uninterrupted.

    Can users back up to other devices under the same account?

    Yes. If the administrator has enabled this feature, users can back up to devices running the CrashPlan app to another device under the same account. For example, Michelle's CrashPlan PROe username is michelle@example.com, and she has a laptop and a desktop. Michelle can choose to back up her laptop to her desktop, or vice versa.

    Is CrashPlan PRO SAS 70 Compliant?

    There are two types of SAS 70 certifications: Type I and Type II.

    All Code42 data centers are SAS 70 Type II certified.

    Is CrashPlan PROe HIPAA Compliant?

    While each implementation must be verified for compliance, CrashPlan PROe can be used in a HIPAA-compliant environment. Learn more about CrashPlan PROe and HIPAA compliance.

    Can CrashPlan PROe run in 64-bit mode on Solaris systems?

    CrashPlan PROe and the CrashPlan app always run in 32-bit mode.
